Ever since Chimena Kamali presented her debut collection for Chloé earlier this year, we've noticed a wealth of throwbacks to 60s and 70s fashion. Alessandro Michele's first collection for Valentino only doubles down on these developments.

Trendy or not, the former Gucci creative director has always had a penchant for ornate, opulent, nostalgic designs – it's what made him such a success at his previous gig. After so-and-so-many seasons of kitsch and pearls and bows, however, Gucci and Michele went their separate ways.

There is reason to believe that the latter's heavy hand in all things ornamental might've grown too heavy in times of quiet luxury's seize of shopper sentiments. There is also reason to believe, though, that with a creeping sense of fatigue over modern minimalism, bohemian maximalism is just the remedy people seek.

Whether you enjoy Michele's new Valentino, specifically, or not, the renaissance of flower power hippie aesthetics is upon us – and inevitable.
