When cowboys talk about mules, they’re usually talking about the hard-working and faithful animal. They’re rarely talking about shoes with the heel chopped off.

The thing is, though, if a cowboy knew that mules like the adidas Y-3 REGU MULE existed, it might be a more regular topic of conversation within the community.

Since it began back in 2002, the partnership between Yohji Yamamoto and adidas has furnished sneakerheads all over the world with avant-garde and futuristic takes on sportswear.

Y-3 continues to push boundaries, melding disparate worlds into silhouettes that exist at the forefront of conceptual sneaker design. Next up is the adidas Y-3 REGU MULE which combine a technical sole unit with a slip-on leather upper and Wild-West detailing for a truly original shoe.

It comes as the latest in a line of REGU designs from the Y-3 imprint, ranging from boots to lace-up shoes, all of which are defined by distinctive detailing around the toe box.

Built atop a fluid, futuristic sole unit that concentrates cushioning around the forefoot and heel, the REGU MULE features a gradient mesh upper alongside luxe leather accents.

It’s a puzzling cocktail of influences, but in typical Yohji style, it just works. While this one might be tough to rock on the daily, it’s a pair that packs a punch for more out-there, fashion-forward fits.
