Welcome to Brain Dead's Hardware Store
Brain Dead stays busy. The Los Angeles label drops basically a collaboration a week — Gramicci, Kiko Kostadinov, rollerskate companies — so it's pretty impressive how downright thoughtful they all are; somehow, even the wackiest stuff fits pretty well in the Brain Dead universe.
Its latest effort is a hardware store-inspired space created in partnership with stalwart workwear company Dickies, called "Brain Dead Fabrications." Here, expect to find exclusive collaborative gear and embroidered utility garments as hardy as anything that Dickies normally dishes out, elevated with Brain Dead's inimitable whimsy.
Perhaps best of all, the in-store items are all priced fairly affordably from $25-$150.
"We wanted the collaborative space to be a neighborhood store, similar to the stores I would buy Dickies from growing up," said Brain Dead founder Kyle Ng. "First and foremost, I think a neighborhood store should serve its community. Given that Silverlake is a community of makers, we wanted to keep things simple and highlight the theme of workwear. That’s why we’re dedicating some of the space to a revolving schedule of creatives, artists, and designers to showcase their work within the community."
Brain Dead already operates its own flagship store and Brain Dead Studios, its own movie theater of sorts, which shows indie films and hosts events for Ng's vast crew of creative peers. Similarly, Brain Dead Fabrications will bring an artistic edge to its Silverlake neighborhood by hosting a series of spotlight events for like-minded artists.
Michael Decker's "Dada Donda Goods" launches alongside Fabrications, showcasing a series of sculptures crafted using mosaic bits that Decker collected over time from sources like novelty mugs and ceramic tchotchkes.
