Double Tap to Zoom

Last week, the Nike Air Max Sunder made its glorious, large-scale return by rereleasing in its OG, “canyon gold” colorway.

This gave the relatively obscure Air Max model a big boost in publicity and now, Nike is ready to capitalize on that publicity with another gold-colored rendition.

Titled “metallic gold”, the new sneaker is similar to its OG counterpart in as far as it’s gold colored and very eye-catching.

Arriving with a black-colored base, the sneaker is decked out with contrasting shiny gold panels that wrap around the mudguard portion of the sneaker as well as gold-hued detailing including the trim found on the top of the shoe and the tiny Nike swoosh on the outside.

Recently surfaced online, official information about this new colorway is sparse, however, initial reports point towards the shoe being released later this year during the holiday season.

The Air Max Sunder’s unconventional construction, which includes a zip-up shroud to cover its upper, was initially designed for cross-training when it was released in 1999 but its futuristic looks made it gain fans in the sneaker world. That is until it was sharply pulled from shop floors in the early naughts, rarely to be seen again

This black and gold release joins a host of other Air Max Sunders that promise to put the Y2K sneaker back into the limelight. Also in the pipeline to release soon is a Kids of Immigrants collaboration that re-imagines the shoe’s upper and a weather-resistant GORE-TEX release.

25 years after its initial release, Nike’s Y2K zip-up sneaker is destined to have a moment.
