Today, Nike unveiled its “Medal Stand” collection for Tokyo 2020, which comprises apparel and a specially-developed Air VaporMax sneaker. Nike, like many other sportswear brands, has a history of going all out when it comes to outfitting its athletes and federations for the Olympics. One of the most important moments is when athletes step on to the podium to receive their medals, so it only makes sense that Nike wants its athletes to wear the latest and greatest when the spotlight is at its biggest.

Sustainability is at the heart of the collection. The apparel takes on minimalist approach, arriving in white with red and blue detailing. The windrunner jacket is constructed from 100 percent recycled polyester, with the garment’s defining mark — the national team logo — stamped with recycled Nike Grind rubber.

Next, Nike reimagines the Air VaporMax, decking out the updated model in a textured, recycled-polyester Flyknit upper with blue detailing on the heel, which sits atop an icy clear sole. The colourful knit which dominates the shoe is inspired by a view of piles of waste from a distance. Instead of traditional lacing, the shoe features FlyEase technology, which enables easy entry and adjustability for athletes of all abilities on the medal stand.

Nike has not announced a release date for the Medal Stand collection. The Tokyo Summer Olympics are scheduled for July 24 to August 9.
