With sports gambling no longer being illegal in the United States, Delaware will become the first new state to offer betting on such events, USA Today reports. The announcement was made by Governor John Carney on Thursday.

“Delaware has all necessary legal and regulatory authority to move forward with a full-scale sports gaming operation, and we look forward to next week’s launch,” Carney stated. “We’re hopeful that this will bring even more visitors into Delaware to see firsthand what our state has to offer.”

Previously, Nevada had been the only state with legalized sports betting, but following the Supreme Court's overturn of the federal ban, the likes of New Jersey, Mississippi, and West Virginia were expected to quickly make the act legal, as each individual state must do so on their own.

According to USA Today, interested parties will be able to bet on MLB, NFL, NHL, NBA, soccer, golf, and auto racing, beginning next week (Tuesday, 1:30 p.m.) at Delaware Park, Dover Downs Hotel & Casino, and Harrington Raceway & Casino.

As it stands, the state has yet to disclose its stance on college betting, but gambling on college football is expected to be offered.
