Tom Sachs stands out easily on Nike's team of collaborators, which generally includes a handful archetypes; athletes like Serena Williams and Colin Kaepernick, fashion designers like Matthew Williams and Errolson Hugh, musicians like Travis Scott and DJ Khaled, or multi-hyphenates like Sean Wotherspoon and Aleali may.

Sachs is none of these. In 2012, the designer and artist collaborated with Nike to produce the groundbreaking Mars Yard Shoe. In 2017, Sachs and Nike created even bigger waves when the sneaker was re-introduced with updated materials. Now, we can take our first look at the latest step forward in the collaboration, the Nike Mars Yard Overshoe.

"We build it for us and our community," Sachs tells Highsnobiety, "people who get it, will get it." The Overshoe's unconventional design is built for wet and cold New York City in the month of March, or Jupiter's icy moon Europa, Sachs adds. The original Mars Yard silhouette is sheathed within a Dyneema upper with drawstring and Fidlock buckle closures, saddled on a light blue SFB sole unit.

In our exclusive interview above, we meet Sachs at his conceptual Swiss Passport office at Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac, where the New York-based designer gets hands-on with the new Nike Mars Yard Overshoe for the very first time, and speaks to us about his new film Paradox Bullets.

Priced at £390 (approximately $508 USD), the NikeCraft x Tom Sachs Overshoe will be available in limited numbers on October 11 at DSM London for in-store pickup only, which can be entered via online raffle. A global release date has now been set for May 9, from retailers like END. Clothing and more.
